»PAUL TEMPLE« | New Radio Play Cases
You probably never heard of him! If so, you're probably a nerd. Or very old. British author Francis Durbridge created the character of Paul Temple (a successful writer of crime novels himself being called by the Scotland Yard whenever they're stuck) in the 1940s. Maybe James Bond was inspired by it because Ian Fleming came up with the 007 agent in 1953.
Being kind of a protoype of a modern investigator standing outside the »system«, and therefore being able to thinking outside the box (Hello Sherlock!), the Paul Temple cases were huge radio blockbusters back in the day – gathering hordes both in the UK and Germany and sticking them to their receivers. The German equivalents were produced by public tv and radio station WDR and hosted big German artists of that time, such as René Deltgen as Paul and Annemarie Cordes as Paul's later wife Steve. By the end of the 1960s they stopped producing Paul Temple Radio Plays due to the ongoing victory march of TV and film. Maybe Bond has something to do with it, too.
Despite no further fresh supplies, the fan base never dried out completely. On the contrary. The digital era helped reignite Paul and Steve and the original cases became a holy grail for lots of escapist fans of British crime works. Today, next to Sherlock Holmes and James Bond, you can definitely count Paul Temple to the standards.
The new cases we produced in 2022. They were highly anticipated by Paul Temple fans and happily broadcasted by Radio Bremen in 2023/24. The Valentine Case even became second in the »Ohrcast« Radio Play competition 2023.
